The Department of Textile and Fashion Design at Eskişehir Technical University began its academic journey in the 2001–2002 academic year under the name Fashion Design Department, within the School of Industrial Arts at Anadolu University.
Following the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 14 November 2011 (Decree No. 2011/2471), the department was incorporated into the newly established Faculty of Architecture and Design. At that time, the faculty consisted of four departments: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Industrial Design, and Fashion Design.
Subsequently, with the enactment of the law titled “Amendments to the Higher Education Law and Certain Laws and Decree Laws” published in the Official Gazette on 18 May 2018, the faculty was affiliated with Eskişehir Technical University.
In the 2018–2019 academic year, student admissions to the Fashion Design Program were suspended due to issues arising from differences in departmental and program names across universities. These differences affected horizontal and vertical transfers as well as graduate admissions with specific conditions. In the same year, to address the evolving needs of the sector and the changing global context, and to educate qualified students accordingly, the Department of Fashion and Textile Design was established with an updated curriculum.
With the decision of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) dated 11 March 2020, the department retained its curriculum but was officially renamed as the Department of Textile and Fashion Design.
